Israel’s support for agriculture decreased in 2012

OECD - Israel should continue to conduct changes in the mixture of Agricultural support

The OECD published its annual report examining the agricultural policy in the countries in the organization, as well as in: Brazil, China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa and the Ukraine.

According to the report, Israel’s support for agriculture decreased in 2012 from 13% to 11% in terms of supporting agriculturalists, out of the total value of agricultural produce. Much of this decline is explained by the narrowing gap between the domestic price versus the global price.

The report also states that 16% of all of the support provided to agriculture, is public support which supports the future of agriculture as an industry which ensures food security for the population. Of that same public support, about 38% is devoted to research and development. The organization recommends that Israel should continue to conduct changes in the mixture of support.
