Google Shows Interest in Israeli Agritech Companies

Google's CEO initiates collaboration between Israeli agritech companies and enterprises in the USA

eric schmidt, google’s chairperson, who runs innovation endeavors, a venture capital fund has recently launched an initiative to connect israeli agritech companies with enterprises in the usa. the initiative calls for a link up with the fund’s farm205 project run in partnership with google, the multinational concerns flextronics, dupont and similar firms.

many companies currently work on developing technologies that shorten the growing period for agricultural produce and thereby use less water, as they strive to assist in solving the global problem of nutrition and food insecurity. this initiative aims to enable such companies to link up with major corporations working in the fields of food and agriculture, to assess their technologies and receive coaching, as well as counseling from experienced directors. therefore, accelerate their development. this initiative does not include any financial investment in the young companies.

however, these partnerships may eventually lead to investments, if and when the right circumstances shall emerge.

dror berman, a partner and director in the fund stressed the point that by 2050, there will be about 10 billion mouths to feed globally and it is up to technology to realize its potential to help meet this important challenge.  many israeli companies can benefit from this link up with giant american corporations.  dror berman views this project as their mission.
