Israel developing economic links with Ghana

Following the opening of an Israeli embassy in Ghana in 2011 the presence of Israeli businesses there has increased and in the latest development in this direction a delegation of Israel’s leading agricultural companies led by Yair Shamir, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development visited the country recently.

Ghana’s rich natural resources especially oil, gold and other metals attract investments from many countries led by China, India and Brazil, but the expected further development in areas such as oil and gas production as well as increased cacao exports should help the country overcome the recent economic difficulties. The improving economic outlook offers increased business opportunities for Israeli companies who can now build on the traditional cooperation between the two countries in military, economic and agricultural fields. Today some 200 Israeli business men and women are working in Ghana and Israeli investments there are estimated at around 400 million dollars.

In a recent initiative Israeli instructors are working in the field to help develop the local citrus industry in a joint venture run by the agricultural development departments at the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs.
